The NROTC came to us with a challenge to produce a command board for their office. The Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Houston Consortium, is an affiliate with the Prairie View A&M University, Rice University of Houston, Texas Southern University, and Houston Baptist University. They wanted a board to display pictures and names of the command structure from the President on down. They also wanted to include the seal for the Department of the Army, Marines, Navy, as well as, the seal for the Army ROTC and Navy ROTC.
A few of the challenges with this board were:
- The photos in the picture frames needs to be easily changeable when new people take over the position
- A lot of information has to display with limited wall space
- The board has to be fully assembled when it arrived
Our design team worked closely with the NROTC Houston Consortium to come up with the final design:
- The board size ended up being 108” W x 60” H. To make this size board, first, we dye sublimate the images onto (3) sheets magnetic dry erase steel. Secondly, we butt joined them together on the backer. This requires us to make (2) seams as part of the overall board.
- The silver aluminum changeable picture frames mount to the board with adhesive and included
- (7) 4” x 6” frames
- (34) 3 ½” x 5” frames
First, our design team came up with a design that meet all the requirements of the NROTC Houston Consortium. Next, we used our large format heat press to dye sublimate the image into the dry erase surface. This makes it permanently embedded in the surface. We, then, assembled the board, attached the picture frames, built a custom pallet, and, lastly, shipped out the board.
